Cajun and Zydeco music is folk music in the truest sense. The songs tell stories of romance, unrequited love, recall memories of a time gone by, and stories of survival.
Yet the music is still upbeat, beause like the people themselves, the Cajun spirit is indomitable, joyous and festive. As it was several hundred years ago, Cajun music is characterized by the fiddle and hand-held triangle.
Zydeco music joins traditional Cajun dance music with Rhythm and Blues and African tempos. Saxophones, "piano" accordions, electric guitar, and the washboard (a corrugated metal vest played against the chest) combine to give the music its distinctive rhythm. No wonder everyone feels like dancing!
Both Cajun and Zydeco music share the accordion, homespun percussion instruments, the French language of the Acadian and a zest for good times. We invite you to join us at Cajun Cabin to share the experience of authentic Cajun music and dancing.
Several of our featured bands are:
- Mitch Cormier and the Can't Hardly Playboys
- Bubba & Them
The next time you're in the French Quarter, come on by to eat, drink, dance, and "pass a good time!"
